Seen at the lower left of this photo, the Pipe Nebula is a very large dark nebula wich is part of an even larger complex of dark nebulae The complex of dark nebulosity stretches 13 degrees in what has been called a "dark river" from the Pipe Nebula all the way to the vicinity of Antares and Rho Ophiuchus. On the right side of the frame is a large complex of red emission nebulae near Antares and Rho Ophiuchus.
