MSG-2, the second model of the Meteosat Second Generation satellite series, is mated on top of its Ariane 5 launcher in the Final Assembly Building (BAF) of the Ariane Maunch Complex n°3 (ELA-3) at the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's space port in Kourou, French Guiana, on December 13, 2005. The 2-ton MSG-2 was successfully lofted onto a geostationary transfer orbit by an Ariane 5GS (V169), on December 21, together with India's Insat 4A communication satellite.
