The Veil Nebula is the remnant of a supernova explosion that occurred about 5 - 10,000 years ago. It is located 1,500 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus. NGC 6992/95 is the brighter eastern half of the nebula at left. NGC 6960 is the portion of the SNR that appears close to the star 52 Cygnus on the right half arc. Pickering's Triangular Wisp, above and to the left of the NGC 6960 portion of the nebula is designated as Simeis 3-188. At the top center of the photo is a small patch of the Veil designated as NGC 6974/79.
