Astronauts among eroded peaks of its moon Callisto.
Several square miles of the surface is dominated by towering spires of ice, 260 to 330 feet (80 to 100 m) tall. While composed mostly of ice, the spires also contain some darker dust, which absorbs heat from the Sun. As the ice erodes, the dark material apparently slides down and collects in low-lying areas. As the ice continues to vaporize, the dark material accumulates and the erosion process accelerates.
