Colour composite image of the peculiar galaxy Centaurus A (NGC 5128), obtained with the Wide-Field Imager (WFI) camera at the ESO/MPG 2.2-m telescope on La Silla. It is based on a total of nine 3-min exposures made on March 25, 1999, through different broad-band optical filters. The elliptical shape and the central dust band, the imprint of a galaxy collision, are well visible. North is up and East is to the left.
