The Mars Global Surveyor images show the evolution of the 2001 great dust storm. Left is a june 10 2001 view of Mars, right is a july 31 2001 view. The views show the Tharsis volcanic region (left), Valles Marineris chasms (right) and the late winter south polar cap (bottom). The view from July shows the same regions, but most of the details are hidden by dust storms and haze.
