On July 28, 1999, during his record-breaking "Perseus" mission to Russia's Mir space station, ESA astronaut Jean-Pierre Haigneré, from France, took this picture of Russian cosmonaut Sergey Avdeev working on the Russian-Georgian Reflector experiment installed on the Sofora mast. Reflector was designed to demonstrate the deployment of a large 6.4-meter-diameter antenna but failed after reaching only 3 meters.
