This european observatory accomodates the Very Large Telescope (VLT) since 1998. Four 8.2m telescopes are used besides several other telescopes from 1.8m to 4m. The four giant telescopes are named ANTU, KUEYEN, MELIPAL and YEPUN. Cerro Paranal is 2600 meters in altitude in Atacama desert.
