Montes Apenninus are a mountain chain located between Mare Imbrium (left) and Mare Serenitatis (right). Some of these mountains are 5000 m high. Top of the image are craters Aristoteles and Eudoxus. Bottom left is the crater Eratosthenes. Middle left is the big crater Archimedes (about 83km of diameter). Image taken on october 12 2006, two days before last quarter of the moon.
