This Alvan Clark 24-Inch refractor was purchased by Percival Lowell and installed at Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1897. Lowell used this refractor for studying Mars. In 1912, Vesto Slipher was the first to observe the galactic redshifts. This telescope is still in use today for public education.
