Lunar halos are caused by moonlight being refracted by cirro-stratus clouds. These thin clouds are located very high in the atmosphere, and are composed of ice crystals. This 22 degrees lunar halo is rather contrasted, although the Moon was not Full (three days after the full moon). 2 october 2004.
