M83 (NGC 5236) is located in the southern constellation Hydra at 15 millions light years from the sun. Near the top of the image lies M83's northern stellar tidal stream, debris from the gravitational disruption of a smaller, merging satellite galaxy. Image composite taken from different telescopes.
