A moonlit night at altitude of 5000 meters on Andes in northern Chile. The foreground is an icy forest of penitentes; thin spikes of hardened snow or ice, with sharp edges pointing towards the sky, reaching heights from a few centimeters up to several meters. In the sky from left to right are constellations Taurus (with the prominent Pleiades Star Cluster), Orion (in the middle), and Canis Major (with Sirius, our brightest night-time star). Familiar figure of constellation Orion, the Hunter, or Taurus, the Bull, appear upside down in this image from the southern hemisphere. November 2011.
