As the earth spins beneath the stars they appear to move across the sky from east to west. However, if one looks in the direction of the celestial poles, the stars appear to circle a single point on the sky. This is the position of the earth's axis of rotation projected into space. 6 hours of exposure. The bronze sculpture monument below, designed by Achilles Vasileiou, was erected in 2006 and honours the warriors at the Battle of Salamis (second great battle between the Greeks and the Persians which occurred in 480 BC). Salamis, Greece, july 2017.
