OSIRIS-REx will travel to a near-Earth asteroid called Bennu and bring a small sample back to Earth for study. It was launched on Sept. 8, 2016. As planned, the spacecraft will reach its asteroid target in 2018 and return a sample to Earth in 2023. Hayabusa2 is an asteroid sample return mission operated by the Japanese space agency, JAXA. Launched in December 2014 Hayabusa 2 is expected to arrive at the asteroid 162173 Ryugu in July 2018, survey the asteroid for a year and a half, depart in December 2019, and return to Earth in December 2020.
