This photo is about a 5 hour exposure with an 18mm f/3.5 lens on Fujichrome 100 RDP color slide film. It is pointed north. Because the earth rotates on it's own axis, during the exposure the stars seem to revolve around a point in the sky very near to Polaris. An observer at his telescope is illuminated at the bottom of the frame with a red flash.
