Here is the south-eastern end of the Veil Nebula known technically as NGC 6995.
The rampaging gas gains its colors by impacting and exciting existing nearby gas. The supernova remnant lies about 1,400 light-years away towards the constellation of Cygnus.
This image is based on data acquired by the Oschin Telescope at the Mount Palomar Observatory.
