The full moon of December 22, 1999 was the brightest full Moon in 133 years because of the unusual coincidence of the winter solstice, the Moon's perigee, and full Moon all occuring within hours of each other.
This photo was taken just before midnight on the 22nd, only about 11.5 hours after the exact moment of full moon at 12:31 pm est and already it is apparent from a careful inspection of the image that a slight phase illumination is visible at the 1 o'clock limb.
