The night of the Giotto-Halley encounter, shows the peanut-shaped nucleus of Halley's comet.
Giotto spacecraft was launched on July 02 1985, to investigate the comet 1P/Halley. In March 1986, Giotto was the last probe to approach the comet and the only one to attempt a close flyby of its nucleus.
