Image Size 300 DPI: 22 * 32 cm

This image was taken from Homer, Alaska on the morning of October 29, 2003 as the eastern sky was starting to see the light of day. The aurora was intense displaying a multitude of colors with magenta dominating this sector. This color is produced as a result of a powerful red oxygen display mixing with the blue and violet light produced by nitrogen. This is a rare occurance but the combination can be so powerful that this type of aurora has been reportedly visible even with the sun above the horizon.
