Sakura-jima, as seen in infrared by the space shuttle, is one of the most active stratovolcano on Earth. Visible are the larger port city of Kagoshima, the two smaller cities of Kajiki and Kokubu and an airport with one runway along the northern end of Kagoshima Bay. Oct 1993.
