The Bayan Obo mine is a large niobium mine located in northern China in Inner Mongolia. The vast majority of rare earths—96 percent of the market—come from China. About half come from Bayan Obo. Astronaut photograph was acquired on october 6 2009 from the International Space Station (ISS).
