Sun with sunspots

Two giant sunspots, easily visible to the unaided eye with proper filtration, are visible in this false color image taken on October 30, 2003. Active region 10488 is at right center of the solar disk and region 10486 is to the lower right of the center of the disk. 10486 is the largest sunspot region so far in this solar cycle. North is to the top in this image.
