After five and a half years in orbit, the LDEF satellite was photographed, after capture by the shuttle's robotic arm. Here, the satellite is seen over the coast of the Namib Desert, Namibia, Africa and held suspended above the payload bay for a thorough visual inspection prior to inserting into the payload bay.
