Artist view of the Giove-B satellite (Galileo In-Orbit Validation Element-B). The operational Galileo system will consist of 30 satellites (27 operational + 3 active spares), deployed in circular Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) at an altitude of 23,616 km altitude. This system should be operating in 2011.
The in-orbit phase has been completed on January 09 2006 and GIOVE-A is operational since January 12 2006.
